RESEARCHING THE EDGE: YOUNG INJECTING DRUG USERS AND FEMALE SEX WORKERS

The purpose of this research is precisely to study, in Romania, the two social phenomena that enhance the risk of HIV infection in adolescents: commercial sex and injecting drug use, with a view to laying the foundations of coherent and effective policies on preventon and intervention. The fact that the research is carried out utilizing a similar methodology and working tools comparable with other states in our geographical area is a good opportunity to adopt ideas and positive experiences and to avoid the mistakes others have made.

It is the merit of UNICEF to have initiated this research and to be constantly concerned with initiating studies that would help identify the best methods of intervention, and also with the implementation of programmes and projects designed for most-at-risk adolescents.
