Being a study of comparative syntax from a generative perspective, it aims at bringing into discussion the properties of these two functional prepositions, in both English and Romanian.<br \/>\nThe comparative approach shows that the English to is a functional preposition, fully predictable from the structure of the verb which can be deleted. To is a case marker and the dative arguments introduced by this preposition are DPs. By way of contrast, Romanian la has shifted from a case marker to a [Person] marker. La has a double status, as follows: it has a functional status only when the Dat argument, analysed as DP can be doubled by the clitic, where la is a [Person] marker.<br \/>\nIn the absence of the clitic, la-phrases are interpreted as PPs and la will be attributed a lexical status. Thus, unlike the functional to, la is both (a) a functional dative marker and (b) a core lexical preposition of the location and movement frames where la assigns accusative case to its object.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":38956,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":[],"product_brand":[],"product_cat":[3748,1531,2756,976],"product_tag":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-38955","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-filologie-colectii","7":"product_cat-colectii","8":"product_cat-lingvistica-lingua","9":"product_cat-limba-engleza","11":"first","12":"instock","13":"shipping-taxable","14":"purchasable","15":"product-type-simple"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product\/38955","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/product"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=38955"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/38956"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=38955"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"product_brand","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_brand?post=38955"},{"taxonomy":"product_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_cat?post=38955"},{"taxonomy":"product_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/editura-unibuc.ro\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_tag?post=38955"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
