This Portuguese-Romanian Phraseological Dictionary is a useful lexicographic tool, which is addressed to a wide range of users, from beginners in the study of the Portuguese language to advanced connoisseurs: master’s students, linguists, writers, translators, researchers – interested in both theoretical and practical aspects related to the field of phraseology.
\nWelded structures, considered linguistic macro-signs thanks to their formal and semantic stability, are divided into three large categories: 1. Stereotyped phrases (Expressive syntagmatic phrases; Allusive and clich\u00e9d expressions). 2. Idiomatic expressions, which also include phraseological expressions. 3. Stereotyped statements (Paremiological statements; Ritual formulas; Circumstantial stereotypes or conversational reflexes). In addition to the expressions themselves, we included in the Portuguese corpus, whenever possible, other equivalent expressions, including proverbs and sayings, that could be used in similar contexts, thus broadening the range of various usage situations and also favoring an intercultural perspective.
\nThis dictionary fully illustrates the fact that an idiomatic expression can have in another language, as a correspondent, an identical, similar or different formulation, which may or may not reflect divergent visions of the world, respecting the cultural, social and linguistic specificities of each people.
