The Republic of Moldova offers a prime setting for the direct observation of contact phenomena. In addition to presenting rigorous theoretical and methodological foundations, the work proposes an original classification of discourse markers and an analysis model applied to two markers found in the Romanian spoken in the Republic of Moldova\u2014*poliubomu* and *tipa*\u2014based on a corpus of recorded oral conversations and electronically mediated exchanges involving bilingual speakers.<br \/>\nThis edition is a revised and restructured version of the doctoral thesis. Previously published sections have been removed, data regarding the sociolinguistic context of the Republic of Moldova has been updated, and certain chapters have been reorganized to provide a more coherent and accessible presentation. The analysis and theoretical framework have been supplemented in specific areas, without major changes to the content.<br \/>\nWe believe this work serves as a useful resource both for those interested in the analysis of discourse markers and for those concerned with aspects of bilingualism and language contact.
