One of the most relevant indices regarding the value of a culture is given by the quality of the efficient results generated by it. The results, however, account for a whole complex that refers to the preparation, level and dynamics of the factors involved. Among these factors is also a very valuable asset, namely the tools – in this case, dictionaries. They have a special value because they arise, mainly, from the conjunction of two elements: the knowledge and science of the respective object or field – accumulated, selected, arranged and improved over time – together with the science and knowledge of individuals, both subject to the same refining processes.
The main purpose of this edition is to provide researchers with a tool that has been missing from our culture for over a hundred years. A tool that not only could not directly help four or five generations, but which lacked the internal model for compiling such a work. If this text had exerted any cultural pressure, the work of translation would have been followed by that of completing it on a compiler basis, with each generation that felt such a need, becoming more and more perfect.
