We have five authors (excluding heteronyms) and nine texts divided into three sections. Almost like an evening at the “Respir Shakespeare” (I Breathe Shakespeare) festival. We start with theory, continue with literature and end with the game, thus following the graph of the public’s availability, more concentrated at first, then increasingly inclined towards frivolity. That an innocent pantomime of tripartite à la First Folio is also being accomplished through these – the reader will suspect.
Some themes are repeated (here in or compared to the first volume, printed in 2017). It is not a reason for great concern. And theater is repeated – a lot – both before the first curtain and after that, performance by performance – and yet it is as you like. Without realizing that the power of the classics lies precisely in the fact that they are repeated and repeated and are neither always the same, nor do they find themselves diminished through practice, nor do they get boring. So we have no fear: Shakespeare’s historical massiveness is like that of a galaxy: you have no way of grasping the whole and, with each glance, something else is revealed to you.
