This volume brings together the studies presented during the National Conference for Doctoral Students in Orthodox Theology, organized by the “Dumitru Stăniloae” Doctoral School of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest. The event took place at the “Holy Cross” (Sfânta Cruce) Social-Pastoral Center of Caraiman Monastery, in Prahova County, from June 30 to July 3, 2022. The conference was attended by professors and doctoral students from various university-level theological institutions across the country, including those in Bucharest, Iași, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Arad, Alba Iulia, and Oradea.
The session of academic presentations was opened by His Grace Varlaam Ploieșteanul, Patriarchal Vicar Bishop. Joining him were Fr. Prof. Ioan Moldoveanu, Dean of the “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest; Fr. Prof. Nicușor Beldiman, Patriarchal Counselor and coordinator of the Theological-Educational Sector, who also serves as Director of the Department of Systematic and Practical Theology and Sacred Art at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest; and Assoc. Prof. Adrian Lemeni, Director of the “Dumitru Stăniloae” Doctoral School at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest.
During the scientific presentation sessions, doctoral candidates shared key findings from their research across various fields of Orthodox Theology, including Biblical Theology, Church History, Missiology, Liturgics, Patrology, Spirituality, and Apologetics. Each presentation was followed by a brief discussion, allowing participants to explore the topics in greater depth and consider their contemporary relevance—ultimately identifying new research avenues pertinent to today’s society.
The National Conference for Doctoral Candidates in Orthodox Theology has been held annually since 2018. It is organized by the “Dumitru Stăniloae” Doctoral School of the “Justinian the Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest, with the support of the Association of Orthodox Theology Students and the University of Bucharest.
