The album presents the work of Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck (1879-1969), the first female art professor in Europe, who taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest from 1916 onwards. Together with Olga Greceanu and Nina Arbore, the artist was one of the founders of the Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, established in 1916 under the patronage of Queen Marie. The album also brings together works by the leading women artists of the interwar period who were active within the Association.
“Powerful, ambitious, a committed feminist, mother, sister and wife, hard-working and eager to show everyone that women belong next to men, not in their shadow – this is how Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck (1879-1969), a Romanian painter with a strong influence in the cultural life of the interwar period, could be described in a few words.” (Ana Maria Măciucă-Pufu)
