The book explores crisis communication beyond rigid definitions, proposing a current perspective, anchored in international trends and in the complex reality of how organizations, authorities and mass media construct meaning in critical moments.
Combining foundations from sociology, medicine and political science, the volume offers a coherent and integrative vision on the mechanisms that shape communication in crisis situations, from risk management to the dynamics of public discourse.
At the heart of the volume is the evolution of crisis communication as a field, analyzed through key concepts such as globalization, the rhetorical arena or contingency theory, which extend and refine the existing theoretical framework.
By drawing on the most recent contributions in the literature, the paper updates both definitions and models of crisis evolution, from the classic four-stage structure proposed by Fink (1986) to contemporary perspectives, such as the regenerative model proposed by Coombs (2019).
The result is a coherent and relevant framework that connects theory with documented examples and provides the reader with a nuanced understanding of how communication becomes an essential tool in crisis management.
