The articles collected in this volume draw together the papers sent in response to a call for contributions and the papers presented at a conference organized by members of the Center for American Studies at the University of Bucharest within the scope of the project Romanian Cultural Space in Transatlantic Perspective. From Post-Communism to Post-E.U. Accession. Transatlantic Perspectives and History in the Making was the last in the series of events organized in the framework of the research project, and occasioned the expansion of the discussion, which had hitherto focused predominantly on Romanian identity in a transatlantic context, and which now came to comprehend other Eastern European spaces, with parallel or contrapuntal examples. The conference was also an opportunity to draw conclusions and to measure the distance traveled since the inception of the project, and in particular to dwell on shifts in the perception of those representations of the main object of study, namely Romanian and Eastern European cultural identity. The articles here presented testify to the diversity of those representations of the main object of study, namely Romanian and Eastern European cultural identity. This volume was edited as a part of the project entitled Romanian Cultural Space in Transatlantic Perspective. From Post-Communism to Post-E.U. Accession, supported by CNCSIS grant no. 205 / 1st of October 2007, project code 1000, project director Prof. dr. Rodica Mihăilă.
