The present work represents an in-depth analysis of the way in which the marine theme is represented in postmodern literature, systematically approaching the texts under consideration from two perspectives: a comparative one, which is focused on the hypotext – hypertext relationship and on the processes of rewriting maritime topoi in the context of a generic intertextuality, and another hermeneutic and anthropological one, which focuses on the constitutive elements of the marine imaginary. The unique characteristics of postmodernist fictions that bear the imprint of the marine imaginary are highlighted, suggesting that they can form a literary subgenre in their own right.
From a theoretical point of view, the work focuses on the influences of French philosophers in the evolution of the concept of the imaginary and analyzes the way in which the marine imaginary has influenced and been influenced by postmodernism. This analysis explores the relationship between space and time in the context of postmodernist fictions, with a focus on the idea that marine space becomes central, to the detriment of temporality. This investigation of postmodernist marine-themed fiction offers a unique perspective on how literature responds to socio-cultural and historical change, highlighting the adaptability and continued relevance of the marine imaginary in the postmodern era.
