This volume of linguistic commentaries is the fruit of the experience accumulated over many years by the members of the author team in the elaboration of important works on dialectology and linguistic geography. The authors of the commentaries in this volume have used modern methods and techniques of interpretation such as motivational linguistics, relating the terms to the reality they reflect. The linguistic maps follow important phenomena at the phonetic, morphological and lexical level such as the palatalization of labials, the treatment of affricates, the iotacization of verbs, the formation of words. They highlight the dialectal bipartition of the Romanian language, into two large areas, the southeastern (the Wallachian subdialect) and the northwestern, in the latter delimiting the Moldovan, Banat, Crișean and Maramureș subdialects. Also, at the lexical level, previous findings regarding the conservative character of the northwestern dialects, where the Latin element is better preserved, are confirmed.
The Romanian Linguistic Atlas by Region. Synthesis (ALRR. Synthesis) is a document of the Romanian language spoken today, produced in synchrony based on extensive field research, a fact that guarantees the originality and authenticity of the dialectal linguistic material.
