The present study analyzes the connection between mental patterns and behavior at the communication level. Reference is made to both classical American philosophy and contemporary philosophy. The action-communication-research relationship is also addressed. Pragmatist philosophers strive to define rational meaning in the process of knowledge and communication. A direct and immediate connection is established between action and rational meaning. Conventions and general understandings are established in people’s minds in the form of assumptions and beliefs that build and re-build the mental schemes in relation to which we act.
