RADU STANCA: opera trăită

The volume Radu Stanca: Opera trăită is an intellectual biography of the man considered the de facto leader of the Sibiu Literary Circle, the group born in the 1940s, under the influence of the ideas of Blaga and Lovinescu. Prematurely deceased, at only 42 years old, Stanca never got to embody his role on the literary scene, nor to see any of his books published or any of his plays performed. Following the examination of the facts of his life, the re-discussion of his work and archival research, a more accurate picture of the scope of this protean author emerges – a poet with an unmistakable stamp, a prolific playwright, director, theater expert and aesthetician. Documents from CNSAS, from the writer’s family archive, manuscripts, notes from the literary workshop, period publications and memoiristic evocations are filtered through a careful analysis.The book is addressed to both specialists and the general public, tracing, in a captivating style, the destiny of a gifted multi-faceted creator, who experienced both exemplary love, great friendship, and the hardships of illness and history.
