The exhibition catalogue follows “Mutzner’s steps from the south of France, the years 1910-1911, his second sojourn here, highlighting the qualities of a strong colorist; the solar splendors of the years 1912-1919, the period of the great voyages in Japan, China, Korea, Ceylon, USA, Venezuela; The Middle East; Mutzner’s achievements as painter of the sunny Balchik; the Romanian stage pushed up to the state painting annuals of the communist period of the fifties, when, despite the imposed themes, the artist creates paintings made with the craft and technique acquired in the early 20th century – bright palette, pure colors, colored shadows, spontaneous touches, continuous movement. Scenes of sunny mornings, foggy horizons, melancholic sunsets, gardens, parks, vaults and picturesque streets, blossomed cherry-trees, temples and tea houses, geishas, seascapes, fishing nets, ships in harbors, sea shores in Balchik, Romanian little villages, country landscapes, grape harvesting, wheat threshing, women in knee-long coats, interiors and still lifes, nudes and flowers in the open air, views of old Bucharest, Moșilor Fair, the Cișmigiu Park. Paintings full of lyricism, a cadence of colors brightly vibrating in accordance with laws assimilated from Claude Monet.” (Rodica Marian)
