The present volume tackles the ramifications of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s concept of spiritual religion. This concept is compared with Kant’s notion of moral religion as well as that of natural religion in the versions of philosophers such as Tindal, Toland, Shaftesbury, Priestley or Hume. In the context of Isaiah Berlin’s tradition of Counter-Enlightenment, Coleridge is best understood as a thinker outside of mainstream Enlightenment, as one who reacted against the aforementioned philosophers’ tendency of God reduction.
