Bringing together the proceedings of the international colloquium organized by the Center for Medieval Studies of the University of Bucharest in 2022, the volume The Soul’s Communion with God in Western and Byzantine Christianity proposes a series of papers that explore theological, anthropological and philosophical aspects of the human soul’s search for Divinity, in the context of medieval Christianity in the West and Byzantium. Studying sources written over a period of eleven centuries, from the writings of the Church Fathers to those of Christian intellectuals from the 12th and 13th centuries, these contributions shed new light on how philosophical thought and spiritual experience influenced the medieval conception of the human soul’s aspiration for (com)union with God.
