Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Eastern Europe has experienced an unprecedented acceleration of history, with the fall of communist regimes, the disappearance of the USSR, the transition to pluralist democracy and a market economy, European integration, and integration into NATO. This acceleration of history has caused considerable upheaval in Eastern European societies, some of the effects of which are now being felt heavily, with political disenchantment, the populist phenomenon, the identity crisis, and Euroscepticism. In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have ushered in a new period of fear and uncertainty. Indeed, the return of war to Europe has caused a shift in European consciousness towards the East of the continent. These “Cross-Views on Central and Eastern Europe” offer the reader, from a multidisciplinary perspective, several insights into different political and social phenomena characterizing the states and societies of this “Other Europe.”
