The conventional meaning of words only constrains what is said, without exhausting the meaning of the sentence. This book addresses phenomena located at the interface of syntax and semantics or semantics and pragmatics, based on a reflection on the role of context, the implicit, discursive connectives, etc. The distinction between truth-conditional and non-truth-conditional aspects of meaning is exploited through various theoretical frameworks, both synchronously and diachronically.
