In the field of aeronautics, the paper emphasizes advanced theoretical knowledge of physics and meteorology, combined with practical applicability, adapted to flight operations, while providing a documented overview of aeronautical meteorology. This paper explores the vast field of 21st century meteorology, as a science and technology, with an emphasis on understanding meteorological phenomena hazardous to aviation or severe weather phenomena, providing a comprehensive overview of the complex relationship between the atmosphere and aviation.
The results of the authors’ studies emphasize that aeronautical meteorology is a complex and dynamic field, which requires a thorough knowledge of atmospheric phenomena, of the techniques and instruments used by meteorologists, as well as of the way in which the manifestation of meteorological elements and phenomena affects the safety, performance and security of flight. In addition, knowledge of the distribution and frequency of certain atmospheric phenomena in Romanian airspace, as follows from the results obtained from the case studies in Part II of the monograph, allows for positional anticipation of severe atmospheric phenomena. This, in turn, facilitates the airport operations services to plan and manage airport resources judiciously, in the face of adverse weather conditions.
Thanks to its particular importance as a precious source of information and applicability, this work is recommended not only to students from specialized educational institutions, practitioners and researchers working in the field of meteorology, but also to those working in the aviation industry in general.
