This work is not just for the few initiated in both Leibniz and the philosophy of mathematics. I have tried to make it accessible to all those interested, who, without being specialized in philosophy or mathematics, enjoy reading philosophy and love mathematics.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tried, I could not make the work have the simplicity of a summer read, of a novel that you can sip and absorb, melting into a narrative.I tried to follow a narrative and logical thread of ideas, the work being more of a “conceptual detective novel” in which the goal was to constantly follow the logical thread of ideas in order to better understand the order of things. Nihil sine ratione, as Leibniz said – nothing without a cause, nothing without an explanation, everything has a basis. At the same time, the complexity of the subject forced me to hide the body of the iceberg in the footnotes, where some more technical ideas are developed and where we need to constantly refer to “evidence”, to the texts and authors discussed. Minimal references are necessary, because, otherwise, we would not have the necessary landmarks to orient ourselves in the Leibnizian labyrinth and see exactly how he formulated the ideas.
To understand the work, you don’t need advanced knowledge of philosophy or mathematics, you just need to have thought a little about infinity, because we can only find what we have already looked for. The work remains, therefore, one of the philosophy of mathematics, centered on Leibniz’s analysis of infinity.
