The present volume is a continuation of a research that I published a few years ago, dedicated to the lexicon of affectivity in the literary text. The current approach, more restricted, considers a single tranche of this lexical field, its realization in metaphor. Given the fact that it is an emblematic trope, an immutable constant of poetic language, the conclusions formulated may be important for the general characterization of the poetry of an author, a period or a literature.
By analyzing this poetic figure in relation to the semantic sphere of affectivity, we actually come into contact with the two fundamental springs of lyric poetry from all times and from all meridians.
In this second edition, we have added a chapter dedicated to contemporary poetry (Nichita Stănescu, Mihai Ursachi, Șt. Aug. Doinaș, Emil Brumaru, Ana Blandiana, Mircea Cărtărescu, Ileana Mălăncioiu, etc.).
This work is not a history of Romanian poetry, although its chapters follow a chronological thread, throughout two centuries of literature. But it attempts to establish, through a concrete analysis, to what extent the establishment of a specific metaphorical scheme was the basis for the existence of an original Romanian poetic discourse.
This second edition also brings a new chapter, dedicated to contemporary poetry. The metaphor of affectivity in the poetic work of the most important writers of the last 50 years is analyzed. Thus, the historical perspective on the emblematic trope, metaphor, offers a complete picture of the evolution of Romanian poetic language.
