The work Reproducerea și Dezvoltarea Vertebratelor addresses—across several volumes—aspects of the reproduction and development of various vertebrate groups, ranging from primitive forms (cyclostomes) to highly evolved ones (mammals).
The first volume reviews fundamental concepts of reproduction and embryology that will serve as the scientific foundation for subsequent volumes.
Most histological images of vertebrate embryos found in the scientific literature are derived from model organisms—specifically Danio rerio, Xenopus laevis, Gallus gallus domesticus, and Mus musculus—and consequently fail to capture the full diversity of vertebrate development. Although model organisms provide valuable insights, the study of non-model species, wild-type organisms, or ecological sentinel species is essential for understanding the impact of environmental pollution on organismal development.
This book is primarily intended for students, doctoral candidates, and researchers who conduct histological or histopathological analyses in the field of developmental biology using various vertebrate species, and who require images of embryonic histology to interpret their own results.
However, the aim of this work is not merely to present a gallery of embryonic histology images; rather, it seeks to use these images to illustrate theoretical concepts regarding vertebrate reproduction and embryology—including insights from recent scientific discoveries that have, in some instances, altered the understanding established by classical studies.
