This work was prompted by the growing demand for legal translations on the job market, which contrasts with the lack of specialized materials: at present there is no bilingual legal dictionary Romanian-Portuguese/Portuguese-Romanian, nor is there the possibility of professional training within specialized postgraduate programs. Therefore, the translator must clarify his doubts also with the help of monolingual dictionaries.
Indeed, what makes a translator’s work harder is the very difficulty of the terms encountered: “The quantity of texts to be translated increases without end, as does their degree of difficulty”. Many of the examples provided in this paper come from personal practice, as I have faced various situations that have created a state of confusion for me.
