The book *Disjunctive Connectors in Romanian: A Diachronic Approach* is a comprehensive monograph dedicated to disjunctive connectors in Romanian. It proposes a diachronic perspective, investigating not only syntactic aspects but also the semantic and pragmatic dimensions of disjunctively coordinated structures to provide a complex, integrative description. The analysis draws upon an extensive body of Romanian and international linguistic literature, encompassing both seminal earlier studies and recent research. The work is organized into seven chapters. The first two chapters address general theoretical boundaries, offering observations on the definition and characteristics of the disjunctive coordination relationship. They analyze semantic-pragmatic types of disjunction, asymmetries arising in the realization of disjunctive relations, syntactic representations of disjunctive coordination, and the grammaticalization processes involved in shaping the inventory of disjunctive connectors. The third chapter discusses the inventory and typology of disjunctive connectors in Old and Modern Romanian, as well as their frequency from the 16th to the 20th century. The final four chapters serve as mini-monographs on specific Romanian disjunctive connectors, examining their etymology, their documentation in early Romanian grammars and dictionaries, their grammatical characteristics, asymmetries identified in disjunctive coordination, their competition with other connectors, and their trajectory throughout the language’s evolution. The analysis of disjunctive connectors is based on a rich and representative corpus drawn from stylistically diverse texts dating from the 16th to the 20th century.
