The book explores the impact of digitalization on society, focusing on the interaction between technology and education in the context of the transformations accelerated by the COVID–19 pandemic. Analyzing both the use of mobile applications for mental health and sleep, and the experiences of online education in Romania, the study highlights the ambivalence of the use of digital technologies: they can facilitate access to information and improve well-being, but at the same time they can accentuate social and educational inequalities. Through a theoretical approach focused on the concepts of digital divide and social transformation, the book investigates the advantages and disadvantages of new technologies, shedding light on how they shape power structures and access to knowledge.
The research is built on a mixed methodological design, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses to provide a detailed perspective on contemporary digital transformations. The five case studies included in the volume examine both the benefits and challenges of technology, discussing current issues such as privacy, digital surveillance, and the blurring of boundaries between human and algorithmic expertise. Regarding online education, the research analyzes how unequal access to digital resources has exacerbated educational and social differences, influencing students’ educational journeys. Thus, the work not only x-rays the digital realities of the present, but also offers a framework for reflection on the future of the interaction between technology, knowledge, and social equity.
