Based on a well-grounded bibliography, the book has creative insights and offers an original contribution to the study of late medieval English culture, approached from a thematic perspective. The authors trace the historical and socio-cultural background of an epoch when the Catholic Church influenced to a great extent the ethics of human conduct and they invite their readers to embark on a spiritual voyage back to a time when Christian faith played a major role in society, inspiring people and taming their fear of death (Monica Pillat).

Monica Oancă was born in 1972. She studied theology and literature at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest. She is currently working on her PhD dissertation on The Castle in English Medieval Society. She teaches at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest.

Martin Potter was born in 1971.
